Motor Learning Study

Text: Seeking children ages 7 to 3

Researchers at UVM are now recruiting autistic children ages seven to thirteen years old for a study on the effectiveness of motor learning and video modeling strategies.

To be eligible, your child needs to be able to follow simple directions with visual supports and not have other neurological or orthopedic conditions. A phone screen to verify eligibility is required, followed by three 45-minute sessions at UVM or another location of your choosing and three questionnaires on behalf of your child (45 minutes total for all three questionnaires). Identifying Speech Problems Study

Text: Seeking children ages 4-7

Researchers at UVM are studying new tests to diagnose speech problems easier.

They are looking for children between the ages of four and seven who do or do not have speech problems of any kind. Children with moderate to severe speech disorders will get a brief report about their results. Children with developmental disabilities, including autism, are welcomed!

Storytelling Study

Text: seeking children ages 6 to 15 and their caregivers

The Department of Communication Sciences at the University of Vermont is interested in examining the effects of a new caregiver-delivered intervention to support memory, story-telling abilities, and social understanding.

This study is for children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) who are between the ages of 6 and 15 years old and their caregivers. This is a 20-week study completed virtually over Zoom. 

Theory of Mind and Social Story

text: seeking children ages 7 to 14

Dr. Patricia Prelock from the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of Vermont is currently seeking children either with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or without ASD (typical), between the ages of 7 and 14 years old, to participate in a research study.

The purpose of this research study is to determine whether children with ASD can improve their theory of mind (ToM) through a social cognitive intervention using social stories. The study will involve a series of assessments; children with participate in a 9-week Social Story intervention as well as MRI/fMRI scanning visits.

All assessments and treatment procedures will take place at either Dr. Prelock's office on UVM campus of the University of Vermont Medical center, following COVID-safety protocol (e.g.., face covering and social distancing). Compensation of $50 will be provided for completing each MRI/fMRI scan. Thank you for considering this opportunity.
